Duane Waterman Romantic - 19th Century LaCote style guitar
I am making about one of these LaCote style Romantic period guitars each year. This style of guitar, of course, was the immediate predecessor to the "modern" classical guitar developed by A. Torres in Spain about 1850. This instrument has a slightly smaller body and shorter scale than the "modern" classical guitar, but, yet, has a strong, even voice easily appropriate for concert use. As would be expected with this earlier guitar design, the basses are not as deep and round as current classical guitars but the bright, clear voice overall is very well suited to music of the Romantic period - Sor, Guiliani, Mertz, Aguado, et al. The attached video will attest to this. The next instrument available like this will be completed and ready in the Fall of 2022. The instrument pictured here uses PegHed tuning pegs with a 4 to 1 gear/tuning ratio, and the next instrument is designed/made with geared tuners in a slotted head.
